Vampires On Campus

As you have probably seen, something weird is going on on campus. People getting bitten by bats, rats in the ceilings, strange requests for partners or lifestyle changes, and that doesn’t even account for whatever freaky stuff people have been getting into in the ECE common room.

And I rather suspect there’s another piece to this puzzle: my hot sketchy new roommate, Carmilla. Multiple signs are pointing to the possibility of Carmilla being a vampire, yes, just like Edward and Dracula and Nosferatu. Carmilla appears to only consume blood (that she claims is not blood) and hot chocolate, and she’s always out at night and then sleeps until like 4pm every day. She is incredibly languid and deathly pale and when we hold hands, her hand is ice cold, like a corpse. She also appears to have a strangely compelling power; I can’t help but be drawn to her. We spend a lot of time together (I love to play with her hair as we lie together on her bed) and she says things to me like “You are mine, you shall be mine, you and I are one forever.” I really don’t understand what she means by that unless she’s planning to do… something vampiric to me.

OK, OK I know what you’re probably thinking, “a fucked up sleep schedule, exhaustion, sickly appearance, and craving for hot chocolate are pretty normal in engineering.” But recently I have found some undeniable evidence of Carmilla being an immortal creature of the night.

I was going through some old Toikes on the Internet Archive, and going all the way back to 1911 (and probably before) every other decade or so, Carmilla makes an appearance. Sometimes there are pictures that are undeniably her, sometimes it’s a “Mircalla Karnstein” or “Millarca Karnstein” that appear in the mastheads. All the evidence points to Carmilla being an anagram-loving immortal that always tends to find her way back to UofT campus.
