SUPERIOR PRODUCER was a ship that was launched on 10th August 1957 and delivered to her first company on August 11th, 1957. The ship was 50.22 m in length and 7.79 m in breadth. The boat was over 400 tonnes and had a capacity of 739 cubic meters. She was first named ANDROMEDA, and was owned by Vof. Shipping company. She was then sold to Rederij L. Remeeus NV in Rotterdam in 1962 and renamed to her current name SUPERIOR PRODUCER. SUPERIOR PRODUCER then spent most of her life moving agriculture products in the Netherlands. In November of 1970, SUPERIOR PRODUCER was then sold to Beiramar Transport company, and did shipping in Panama. She was then sold again in 1973 to Pan-Van Line. Then on September 30th 1977, SUPERIOR PRODUCER was shipping cargo to Venezuela, heading through Curacao Bay. She immediately began to list (tilt or lean) as she went through the water, most likely due to improper and over loading. The small crew attempted to save the ship by casting off some of the cargo, which was mainly whiskey, perfume and clothes at the time. This had no effect on the sinking of the ship, and it continued to sink. Attempts were made to unsink her but failed. So SUPERIOR PRODUCER was towed out of the harbour, and then sank roughly 200 m off shore outside of Curacao Bay. She sank in water about 30 deep. SUPERIOR PRODUCER sank in such a way that they landed vertically. There were no casualties in this sinking, and it was reported to be a fairly calm sinking. She is now a popular diving spot from the unique way that she landed and her proximity to the shore and other accommodations. She is also a hub for marine wildlife, mainly blackbar soldier fish and tarpon fish and provides support to local corals, sponges and other marine flora.
