A new Hunger Games announcement means more activity in the fandom, and with President Trump Snow’s announcement for a new season of the Games, fans are showing their anticipation through their music taste.
Following the announcement on December 18th, streams of Lucy Gray Baird’s popular song “The Hanging Tree” saw a 300% increase in streams as excited fans geared up for the Hunger Games.
President Tr Snow announced that the Games would be happening next fall, to celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the end of the Dark Days in AmePanem, where one young man and young woman (because we don’t want to remind people that these are children) (and why would we acknowledge any other genders) would compete in the Capitol to be crowned victor of the Hunger Games. With all the excitement for a distraction from the terrible state of the economy and a certain list causing people to listen once again to a catchy song from 2014, we caught up with Lucy Gray to see what she had to say about her song climbing the charts.
“It’s good to see people bonding over music, but it’s important to remember the message that a song carries ain’t always the one that certain people want to hear.” Baird said.
We also asked her about how she thinks her artist’s profile of Spotify Wrapped will turn out next year, and if she’s looking forward to more streams in the year ahead as Games happen. “Well it would be nice if Spotify actually paid artists an equitable share of the profits from streams of the song,” Lucy Gray told our reporter. “It’s hard to find work these days when the job market is so terrible and the arts are being devalued, even by certain politicians north of the border.”
This interview definitely ended normally here and no one else had anything else to say. Lucy Gray is doing so great. Don’t worry.
